A little note about Death, our constant companion, who walks among us always

Even the miniature sunflowers in my miniature garden greet the sun in the morning, reach for it, yearning and longing, convention be damned. And the trouts too, raised on their pond-farms, when the food comes from those big mechanical metal arms, they leap for the sun and for the food, hunger naked hunger, unashamed I say.

Say you are walking in the aspen grove, trunk-eyes staring you down, I dare you to lean in a certain way, turn just so. If you are honest with yourself, on occasion, if you are brave enough to stay open, you will see death, your constant companion, walking next to you.

Waiting. Friendly. Death may even wave or smile. “Not today,” death will say. “Not today. Do not fret. Just remember to reach for the sun. Remember to jump for nourishment and sunshine. This is a life. Yours. All the hunger. All the longing. Enjoy it. I’ll be with you and one day sure enough we shall meet.”
