Precisely, Capitol Hill.

The upstairs neighbors were Nancy and Mona, together but sometimes in typical love relationship struggles. Nancy, Puerto Rican, big salsa maker, big music lover. Mona, phillipino, made some sugar cane drink that was the end of being sober almost immediately.

Loved the Washington Football Team (then called the Redskins, now the Commanders or something like that).

Big parties, Sunday afternoons.

No matter who Washington was playing, no matter what time of day or night, the Brazilian drag queens never ever brought beer or wine or anything. “We are gift enough. Now where’re the drinks and where is the salsa?”

eastern market, capitol hill, dc
